Wi-Ro, Making Lazy...... More lazy...

Problem Statement

I feel like people are lazy to go from one room to another just to switch on/off lights. My Personal experience, Every night when I go to bed and I see any of the light which was left ON, them I'm like Nooooooooooooo...... this can't be happening, I don't want to get up.

Way towards Solution

I shared (Verbally) this almost daily nightmare with my friends, well... this was the time it sparked. They too were facing somewhat samething.

I decided to solve this problem, but moving ahead just on the need basis of 4-5 people, it may seen like running towards the wall. So, I took a Online Survey, and decided on the basis of data I'll move forward with the project.

I started with blank papers and pencil, little messing around with a dense mass of neural network placed at the top most point of the body (So called Brain), Ended up with 4 different approaches to solve the problem.

Firstly I thought of just creating a remote but then I realized it would be like creating a BNC (Bayonet Neill–Concelman) jack without BNC Plug. It would be a wastage of both time and money.

So....Here I am sharing my sketches.

Proposed Solution

Lets Hack into a remote and connect it to Wi-Fi

~Simple ?

Well... this won't be as easy as it sounds. I decided to create a Star Network topology and connect all the Swtich panels in the home to a central Router. On the same Router i'll be connecting my remote. So, that it can access all the Panels Via IP from any where in the connectivity range.

Survey Data

I ran an online Survey via google forms and ended up with a decision to carry forward with this project. 85% (Approximately) People are willing to invest in the Product.

Key Points

>Every Panel in the home would be installed with ESP 8266 ( Wi-Fi SOC) so that every panel can have its own IP and is able to connect to the Central Router.

>Every Panel would be having a Microcontroller, Relays to Switch Load, OLED (It will look fancy),Temp Sensor, RTC (Real Time Clock), PIR Sensor ( Maybe), SMPS 230V AC to 5 VDC.

>Initial intention is to create a Plug and Play type Panel i.e Connect Normally as a normal Panel ( Switches ) and connect it to Wi-Fi and Configure your Remote afterwards.

>The feeling of having a traditional Normal Switch on walls have to be preserved along with making it a smart switch.

>It should not look like Rocket science or High-Tech peice of Nothing to Consumer.

Future Scope

>These Dumb Normal Switches can be improved effectively and save a lot of electrcity.

>The whole system can be hosted on a dedicated Server and this flexible connectivity can be utlized Via Internet or May be through a Mobile App.

>These panels can be integrated with the Electricity Meters and the data can be sent to Electricity Board. Cutomers can even have a consumption Breakup of their Bills.

>one of the panel can be Intergrated with the Normal Windows ( Not Pointing towards software one). Can reduce the risk of Shocks even with wet hands

>Recharable Remote.

Suspected Challenges

>Creating a form factor of the hardware which is as similar as a normal switch.

>Giving it a boon of "Normal Connections to the customers" tag.

>Networking.

>Using data Lines of a normal remote control or hacking into a remote or worst case create a new one.

>Cost Reduction.
