Wildcard week

This week i wanted to explore the process of composite but using laser cut to make diferrent shapes for it (to know how to use better the laser cut check week 3). The next step was design the bowl and the shapes for the laser cut. The bowl has to be a close model so the Rhino Cam can read it.

After i made the Rhino Cam file, the parameters are almmost the same as when i cut the CNC but it can be much faster because the material is soft. For better use of the material, i did the rhino cam with Marta. We had to take out the sacrificial or the material would be too high to cut. After that we fix the material and we cut it.

With the mold ready i cutted the fabric on the laser cut , i chose circle just to see how i could play around with it. After cutted i put the material over the mold. It help me to plan how i would do it and to realize that i needed more circles.

I had to apply fast because it have to be all done in 10 minutes. I made 2 layers fo the fabric with the two color of it.

To put on the vaccum machine i had to use a few layers of differents materials:

I left it for 12 hours and this is the final result :

One of the problems that i found was the color, after it was done was almost all the same color. For better result i should try other kind of fabric. Another think i could do use more material , but i had just a pice of fabric to use. I also could sand the mold but i wanted to text how much of the texture the bold would get. Here is the file.
