Fiber Glass and Vacuum Bagging

Materials: fiber glass epoxy resin breath cloth peal ply


I use a CNC milled faom as the mould

First I dip the fiber glass into mixed expoxy resin, proper protection is necessary for doing this process, fiber glass and the dust it created will harm both you hand and lung easily

Before I lay the soaked fiberglass on top of the mould, I put a layer of thin plastic as a relaese fabric, I am not quiet sure if its correct, but I just want to give it a try. Because I want to keeo the surface profile as detail as possible, I didn't put too many layers, only one layer at the top and one layer at the bottom. Then an epoxy resin soaked fiber glass in between. On the side next to the vacuum valve, a breath cloth is necessary for make spacing to let the air breath out.

After the air was sucked out completely, I seal the valve and wait until the resin dry.

After about a day (halfday might be enough), I demould the fiberglass from the origin mould.

For this week's assignment, I am not quite sure what I did was correct, especially in material selection, although I uderstand the process roughly, Sourcing the correct material here in Taipei aren't going so smooth. So I just try my best to get it right.

The mould shape might not suitable for this vacuum bagging technique, it truns out okay but not perfectly along the surface and made the resin not evenly thick. So this might be things i have to be aware next time.
