3d Scanning and Printing (Week 5)
I have always been interested and excited about 3D design and the assignment for this week allowed me to explore this domain a bit more.
I used 123d catch to complete my 3D Scan project. The process included clicking pictures of the desired object from different angles. I clicked about 25 images using my mobile phone camera.
Below is the photograph of the original object and 123d catch renders -
The object i picked for 3d scan is a bottle of calcium tablets. The scan also picked up the label at the back of the bottle, not seen in the images above.
For the 3D printing assignment, I went over to a friend’s product design studio to print my design. I made a simple seal with my initials. The design file can be downloaded from here (.stl).
I used 123D Design to make this simple object, of the size 6cm. For printing purposes, the exported .stl file was converted to .cnc in Kissslicer. We used ABS to print this seal.
Watch making of the seal here.
The printing took about an 1hour + 15 minutes. Here are some images of the final product.
The final output is not rough as it may seem from the pictures. I loved the texture of the print.
