Welcome

Welcome to my journey during the Fab Academy 2026. My name is Christian Nyqvist.

I temporarily left my job as lecturer at Windesheim Hogeschool Almere (batchelor degree) within the department of Software Engineering to join this programm. The last years I've learned what it means to engage young people and try to win them over. I've taught a lot of subjects ranging from algorithms, python programming, software architecture, knowledge management, chairman of the so called Examen commissie and assessor of the work of graduates.

Before then I worked as 10 years as independent contractor doing all kinds of work; but always related to ICT. One moment I was a generalist and the next a specialist (OutSystems low-code development).

To get that far, I left IBM were I was a management consultant. Yes, the one wearing a suit and a tie. But it gave me the opportunity to work for different kind of big organizations on different type of assignments (even the ones I knew little about).

But I started as a student at the University of Leiden were I graduated in the area of Medical Computer Science on the subject of Knowledgebased Right Ventricular Detection. I even spent a year as a Phd. student but it was not for me.

Between being a grudate and IBM I spend a lot time learning from the best; a company called Coopers & Lybrand. There they put me on every type of course you could think of teaching me mainly soft skills. My area of expertise then was Lotus Notes and (later) Siebel.

Around 2015 I took a break; so called sabbatical. Although I had no plan (just for fun right) I soon found out that I didn't just wanted to go back to the professional live I had. What did I really like? It took me 3 months to kind of figure that out.

Quote

"I get up every morning to show what is possible so that people can make the right choice for themselves."

It helped to focus on industries that I likes to work for and, using my own WHY, what type of jobs. It really helped but around 2019 I saw the job opening to become a lecturer. Seeing my WHY it made perfect sense.

Don't get me wrong it is still something I like to do. But 2 years ago things became a routine. I wondered why and joined a job coaching program. There I found out that, given I was 18 again, I would like to have become an artist. Not the painting type but the one that combined all kinds of ideas/ stuff and create something.

Next the journey started to find out what this actually means. And that is how eventually found the Fab Academy. It makes perfect sense.

Oh that's right ...

I also have a life outside work. I live in Weesp near the water since 2007 coming from major cities like The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Since 2007 I raised a family with my wife Janneke; their names are Ymke (daughter; 16 years of age) and Tjibbe (son; 18 years of age). In my spear time I try to run, swim and cycle (triatlon) and do all kinds of 'home improvement' (which involves occasional electronics).
