Week_7
For thsi weeks assignment we need to make something ‘big’. I have decided to make a housing for my 3018 pro cnc machine using a much larger cnc machine. Very meta.

Measurments: I began taking rough measurements for the 3018 using a basic ruler making sure to give plenty of wiggle room is it didnt need to fit snuggly at all

I used the measurements to create a parametric design using finger joints and used it to make a Making a smaller prototype using the laser cutter to visualize how it fit together

I was satisfied with the outcome and made the toolpath using Aspire using a 6mm endmill and a 3mm pass depth to be safe I will be using 15mm plywood so there will be 5 passes total making sure to dogbone the corners and add tabs to keep the pieces in place once cutting is done

The first cut was cutting out the inserts that would hold the tray section of the table as illustrated by the dark lines accross the sections.

We used an electronic zero setter to zero the z axis

checking the cut quality of the inserts we can see some fraying on the top layer of the ply which is fine as this will be on the inside of the shelf as we can see the space is slightly less than 15mm

we moved ahead an cut the rest of the pieces

checking the quality of the cuts: There is slight fraying on the cuts but this isnt a problem and the pieces are all oriented inward so the outside will have a clean finish.

assembly the fit was a bit too tight and required a bit of post processing

I primarily used my dremell and some had files to carefully remove material

I wanted to maintain the tight fit so it was key that I didnt remove too much material. So I would Use a marker to color the section I was working on and remove it layer by layer
