Final Project: Penguine Escalator

My goal is to create something that makes physical therapy easier and more fun

**Problem:** Physical therapy is boring, and I hate having to count out reps and sets
**Solution:** Create a device that will count for me and has a fun digital indicator
**Target audience:** Anyone who does physical therapy, with a slight focus on children

Execution

My idea is to create a decive similar to this toy from my childhood. It works by having two alternating walls shaped like steps that slowly allow the penguin to “climb” the stairs. A second device will be strapped to the user to detect movement. Everytime the user does a repitation on the physical therapy movement, the penguin will climb one step. The device will have 10 steps to represent 10 reps, and once finished the penguine will slide back down to the start

Potential steps for this process

  * -Make the walls & steps, start with an open body for the mechanisim
  • -make sure tolerences for the penguine, the stairs, and the slide allow the penguine to get back to the bottom

  • -Make a tester penguine, must have pegs sticking out the sides to catch onto the stair walls

  • -Make a mechanisim that pushes the walls up and down

  • -make the mechanisim fit inside the toy

  • -create/find a machine that detects movement

  • -make the machine communicate to the penguine stairs

  • -calibrate the machine

  • -find a more comfortable way to attach the remote to the users body

  • -make the stairs cute :)
