Week05
Week 5 Group assignment:¶
- Test the design rules for your 3D printer(s)
- Document your work on the group work page and reflect on your individual page what you learned about characteristics of your printer(s)
3D printer in our lab¶
The 3D printer in our lab is Bambu Lab P2S, 256x256x256 mm build volume. And it’s not Lab’s shared printer, but here is Bambu Lab H2S that have 340x320x340 mm build volume.
When I look around Bambu’s Maker World, I found “Test Printe” by Mc2.project3D and it looks covering a lot, so I choose this design as a benchmarking model.
Printing¶
Slicer for Bambu Lab printers is “Bambu Studio”. Print a model from Maker World is super easy, just need to click “Open in Bambu Studio” button on the page you want to print.

So Bambu Studio will be launched, and we need to choose a printer to print and select a filament going to be used. This time, we choose PLA matte white filament.

By going through “Preview” tab, Bambu Studio do slicing and preview the sliced data. I usually configure to add support or raft, but we did nothing special at this time because this is benchmarking. We printed this model both on P2S and H2S to compare.
Result¶

I’m happy with the quality of prints. Left in picture is from H2S, right is from P2S. There are not so big difference except “60°” emboss character on smaller arc overhang.
Overhang¶

Both prints have minor problem on more than 60 degree overhangs as we can see from top side. Printed filaments drooped. If I had to say, print from H2S is a little bit small amount of droops.
Hole¶

From this part, we only evaluated a print from Bambu P2S.
One of the common knowledge on 3D printing is, holes will be shrink. Actually, 4 mm hole was shrunk and was 3.85 mm.
Diameter¶

D = 6 mm piece looks between 5.90 and 5.95 mm. Shrinking may not have big effort on bidder diameter piece.
Bridging (Flow control)¶

I never thought 3d printer can print 50 mm long threads in the air without any problem. Bambu printers have automated flow calibration and it looks work well.
Also on tollence test part, 0.05 mm gap part fits very well.
