a modular light sculpture of color combination

Invention
My project comes from a personal art exploration I started in 2020 called My Cyan CiTies, mixing photography and digital art. The intention of this project at the Fab Academy is to give three-dimensionality to these drawings, and that's how I chose the tree to make the color of these cities real.
So the project is basically artistic. It is a modular light sculpture that changes color as you assembly it. The sculpture in metal is made from its design to its fabrication by myself.

I choose a liscence from creative commons because it is an art piece at the end of the day. I hope to continue this exploration and make more electronic sculptures to materialize the cities I draw. As it is art I want people to know I am the owner, however as it is a digital fabrication project I also want to share the process and knowledge with others so they can make their own cities as long as they give me credit as the creator.
Creative Commons has a lischence chooser to help you with the decision by understanding if you want to commercial use and attribution for you project.

It helped me decide for this liscence which requires credit for the creator by the original idea but lets making changes for non commercial purposes.

Target audience
My project could be said to be aimed at anyone interested in digital urban art in the form of an installation, as it's a changing sculpture that requires a specific action. But this scenario would be ideal once I have many sculptures and can display them. Meanwhile, my target audience would be art and technology enthusiasts like me who would like to build a sculptural lamp at home.
Key message & g o a l s
The TREE Light SculpT is a modular light sculpture that changes color as you assembly it reflecting the nature objects of cities and people interaction.
Some personal goals with this project:
Schematic c o n c e p t and functionality

f i n a l q u e s t i o n s
This week I started to fabricate the systems. First I finished the schematic and pcb design to fabricate the pcb board of the base and of each petal.
11. What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?
Base: completed
Stem: Aluminium stem done. Case in PETG design done.
In the wildcard week I decided to make the base from aluminium since in the fablabulima we had this Kitamura machine that cuts in 5 axis with different tools for different finishes.

Petals: Design done, fabrication pending.
Pcb and schematic design approved by instructors, pcb board done.
12. What's working? what's not?
The pcb design was not working with pin headers since the cables need to go vertical and not horizontal. I already change it to terminal blocks. Also, the signal to conect each petal was not working because the circuit needs to be pull down so i need to add a resistance of 10k between the VCC and the second pin.

New schematic design with terminal blocks and resistors between the signal pins and 3.3V for each petal

fabrication of the board
N o T w o r ki n g
I forgot this pcb board was going to be trough hole. I have only made SMD pcb boards in the past assignments. And as the edges of this board where not syametrica or either rectangular it really matters where it was going to fit. I did not realize this until I cut the fill of the base in laser cut and see that it did fit but upside down. I culd have just mirror everything if it was a rectangle but as it was an specific form I had to make everything again in the correct order.

How it would be if it was SMD

upside down does not fit
13. What questions need to be resolved?
- If the code of the LEDs is going to work
- If the material is not too heavy
I alredy tried the code with an ARDUINO UNO board to test if the petals signal is going to work as a button or not. It did work. However I still need to try with the seeduino XIAO ESP32C3 and the led strips.
