16. Wildcard Week

💧 A Metalic Drop.

The goal for this week is to master an alternative technique as a method of fabrication. In my case, I used the plasma cutter available at the university lab to create a small, folded two-dimensional sculpture.

Learning Plan:

The main software used to operate the plasma cutter is Libélula Wizard. For the design of the piece, Rhinoceros was used, working as a CAD assistant.

Libellula.CUT is a specialized software used to control and optimize plasma, laser, waterjet, and oxy-fuel cutting machines. It allows users to import CAD designs, define efficient cutting paths, and generate CNC codes compatible with various machines. Its user-friendly interface supports material management, automatic part nesting, and precise cutting parameter settings to improve accuracy and minimize waste.

💧 Research Objectives & Workflow

The process will be quite straightforward. The cutting parameters and bend line will be validated on a water drop shape drawing that will be transformed into a small foldable sculpture.

💧 Machine characteristics

1. As an approach to the technology, the characteristics of the cutter are specified, as well as its manual parameters for the proper management of the project’s finishing.

💧 Drops, Drops, Drops (Personal Asignment)

2. The drawing of the cat is made based on an image from the internet, which allows us to quickly extract vectors using a converter

Imagen

3. A new work file is generated, specifying the dimensions, thickness, and material of the sheet to be processed.

Imagen

4. Once our file is correctly placed within the workspace, it is necessary to specify certain parameters such as the piercing height, piercing delay, and torch angle.

Imagen

5. Once the toolpath is generated in G-code, it must be transferred to a USB drive and taken to the machine’s computer. There, using the navigation keys, the file can be located and the G-code preloaded into the system.

Imagen

6. Once the mechanical movements are designed and loaded into the machine, it is necessary to review the cutting parameters according to the recommended settings.

Imagen

7. Set the machine power and start the cutting process.

Imagen

8. The final step is to bend the cut piece in order to create a base. However, the base should have been larger, as the piece couldn't stand properly due to its weight.
