Final Project¶
Research¶
I started off my research by exploring various other student projects from previous years. These projects helped me to understand the process that goes behing making a final project.
Brainstorming ideas¶
-
College Map - Interactive map which tells the best places of my college.(Routes, facts, sounds, labs)
-
Plant Care Device - A device that keeps track of my plant by checking soil moisture, light, and temperature.
-
Interactive lamp - Exploring light and shadow
Initially, I was inspired by the idea of creating an interactive lamp influenced by the architectural patterns of Rajasthan. I wanted to explore the interplay between light and shadows to create some visual folklore stories.
Final concept¶
Project Overview¶
My final project is a self-cleaning bird feeder that makes bird feeding easy and mess-free. It will manage seed distribution and reduce waste keeping the feeding area clean.
Who Will Use It?¶
-
Bird enthusiasts who enjoy watching birds but want a cleaner, low-maintenance setup.
-
Urban households with balconies or gardens where traditional feeders create mess.
-
Wildlife conservationists and researchers who want to track local bird species.
Final Project Idea¶
I got this idea from my own experience. We had a bird feeder on our balcony, and I loved watching birds come and eat. But the seed husks and peels made a mess, and my dad removed the feeder because cleaning it was too much work. That’s when I thought, why not make a bird feeder that cleans itself?
Concept Development¶
Thoughts¶
-
Detects when the food level is low. A refill needed? Light indicator
-
Self cleaning to avoind mess - A sloped feeding tray, Excess debris into a waste compartment, a mesh. (vibration/rotating/tilting)
-
Bird recognisation - Analyse the bird and keeps track of the birds found in the area (regional labguage)
-
Weather - Rain detection covers the food, slopes to direct rainwater away.
-
Auto-Cleaning Timer - Mist spray (once a day)
Form¶
Inspiration
Biomorphism¶
honeycomb, flowers, nest
What is Biomorphism?
Biomorphism is a design style that takes inspiration from nature. It emphasizes fluid, curvilinear, and asymmetrical forms that mimic the structures found in nature. Biomorphic designs often appear soft, flowing, and dynamic, in contrast to rigid, geometric structures.
Shape and structure¶
Inorganic shapes inspired by nature (flex cut)
Tools¶
- Laser cutter for precise cutting of MDF/Plywood.
- CNC router for detailing
- 3D printer for custom parts.
- Soldering iron for assembling electronic components.
Fabrication Process¶
- Sketching & 3D Modeling: Draw rough ideas and make a 3D model to refine the shape and mechanism.
- Prototyping: Trying out the flextures to get the accurate form.
- Material Preparation: Cut MDF or plywood using a laser cutter or CNC router for accurate parts.
- Electronics Integration: Install sensors, motors, and circuits for smart features.
- Programming the Controls:
- Final Assembly and Testing: Put everything together and testing to see if everything works right
