Week 18 : Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income
This is our LAST assignment week! As the saying goes, it’s bittersweet. We are to develop a plan for disseminating our final project.
Dissemination Plan
This project is intended to increase viewer and consumer traffic of products being sold and displayed at art markets. It is meant to be a more interactive display to draw in and connect consumers. It also collects valuable data, the amount of interactions during the event. I designed this project, very much for my personal use, with no intention of selling it or creating a business plan. But, if I were to look at this project as a product to mass produce, it’s intended audience would be small business owners with custom products. Vendors, makers, artists, crafters, exhibitors, etc. This project would be funded through personal funds. Lots of the project is already made inhouse (not that inhouse always means cheaper but), at an attempt to make the product more accessible and affordable. If it were to be scaled up, buying materials in bulk and finding local supplies would be ideal. I would say what I currently made as the design is copyrighted since they are my original drawings/designs. So, the actual laser cut designs and patterns are not available for commercial use. The actual code and electrical functions are basic controls and have no purpose or right to be licensed.
Future possibilities naturally would be to have multiple design options to customize to the client’s style and needs. I think it would be nice to have a more permanent structure design versus the interlocking design I created. Also dive deeper into more sophisticated micro controllers and have a more accurate and reliable interface. Having additional controls of the servo and LEDs, along with more variations and settings for the LEDs.
