My name is Augusto Vanegas. I am an aspiring designer and the FabLab Captain at Moonlighter FabLab. I’ve always had a curiosity that drove me to explore the technical side of form—why a specific form was chosen for an object or why it stood out compared to others. Many of my interests revolve around visual and informational elements. This quality led me to explore fields that intersect creative and technical abilities. I studied architecture in high school and for a couple of years in college before deciding to move on. Soon after, I became drawn to audiovisual technology and digital art through ARTECHOUSE, a pioneer in interactive digital art spaces and exhibitions.
Recently, I’ve been exploring fabrication and light manufacturing, with a strong interest in entertainment and industrial design. I’m determined to pursue the path that suits me best. My knack for solving technical problems and figuring out how things work keeps me engaged and excited for new challenges—especially as I embark on my journey with FabAcademy. I’m optimistic it will help me uncover new directions and clarify the next steps in my creative and professional development.
I’m a big fan of sci-fi worlds like Dune, Warhammer 40k, Halo, Evangelion, and the Homeworld series, as well as epic fantasies like The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Growing up, I read about history and explored anthropology, which deepened my appreciation for the arts, material culture, and form. I’m a huge fan of LEGO, and while I can’t afford many of the larger sets, I’ve built a small collection of collectible mini figures—originals and customs—that lean heavily toward medieval and other historic themes.
Whenever I have free time, I like to watch a good show, preferably something sci-fi, fantasy, or outright silly. When I’m not picking up and dropping Blender, I’m experimenting with Rhino, modeling whatever random obsessive idea comes to mind. I also enjoy playing video games like Armored Core 6, Europa Universalis 4, Crusader Kings 2, and similar titles.
While I’m not musically inclined, I enjoy filling the silence with my favorite bands. Lately, I can’t stop listening to The Talking Heads, Brian Eno, and Cortex.
Here you can see some of the projects I am currently working on.
