Machine Week
Desktop landscape model of an Icelandic fjord with realistic simulation of sun path.
Assembly tree:
- Base with cutouts for DC-supply and input switches
- made from what material? maybe lasercut MDF?
- include space for PCB, motor control, cables, motors, gears
- Arm with sun
- include cable routing and seat for light bulb
- 3D print
- Base plate with 3D landscape
- 3D printed
- maybe two-color print? ocean and land different colors?
- PCB with microcontroller and motor control
- internal mounting brackets - 3d print
- gears - laser cut or 3d print
Purchased parts:
- two motors
- microcontroller
- motor controller
- switches / potentiometers
- home position switch
- dc power supply
- voltage regulator
- light source
Other tasks: - build the mathematical model behind the sun path depending on geographical location - write the program - what language? - make a complete 3D assembly - what software? - select what location is best and create the 3D model - design gears for both rotational axis
Who can do what task? How do we collaborate on the 3D model?
3D map - converting an image to .stl
A 3D map of Iceland
We found a 3D map of Iceland here. This site belongs to the Icelandic Institute of Natural History. On the map you can choose which part of Iceland you want to download and we chose the area where Ísafjörður is. Then we downloaded the elevation model named ISN93, as you can see in the picture below.
Converting an image to .stl
We used the ImgConverter found here in the Microsoft Store to convert this image of Iceland to a .stl file.
