About Fablab TU Ilmenau
The Technische Universität Ilmenau (Ilmenau University of Technology, TU Ilmenau) is a German public research university located in Ilmenau, Thuringia, central Germany. Founded in 1894, it has five academic departments (faculties) with about 4,900 students. Teaching and research are focused on the fields of technology (including computer science), mathematics and natural sciences, business and media.
The FabLab of Technische Universität Ilmenau, known as FabLab@TU-Ilmenau, is an open space for innovators and creators, offering access to modern manufacturing technologies. It enables students and university staff to bring their ideas to life using techniques such as 3D printing, CNC milling, laser cutting, and more.
The FabLab@TU-Ilmenau follows a "Blended Makerspace" concept, integrating decentralized actors and resources to provide transparent and easy access.
Our partners include:
- IlmkubatorLab, the makerspace of the entrepreneurship service,
- UNIKAT, the student workshop,
- Makerspace@UB, our makerspace in the library, and the
- Lehrwerkstatt, which offers hands-on training in modern manufacturing techniques for students and apprentices.
This concept was realized with support from the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education (project examING) and the Ilmkubator (EXIST Potentials Project). The further development and sustainability of the FabLab at TU Ilmenau are ensured by the Carl Zeiss Foundation.
The FabLab@TU-Ilmenau is open to everyone interested. You can drop by during OpenLab hours or contact us via email at fablab@tu-ilmenau.example.de
