What Is the Invention?

Subsevan is an underwater exploration robot, designed for shallow lakes and reservoirs. It helps researchers, hobbyists, and students explore underwater ecosystems. The project combines custom electronics, 3D printed mechanical systems, and sensors to monitor the environment and detect wildlife.

It is designed to be easily manufactured using digital fabrication tools such as CNC and 3D printing.

Licensing

I chose to share this project under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Why this license?

  • βœ… Attribution – I want others to give credit and build upon this work.
  • ❌ NonCommercial – I do not allow direct commercial use without permission.
  • πŸ” ShareAlike – Anyone modifying or improving it must use the same license.

This license fits Fab Academy’s spirit of openness and education while preventing unauthorized commercialization.

Final Thoughts

The Subsevan Submarine is not just a technical project, but also a learning journey in design, manufacturing, and ethical sharing. I hope others will improve it, learn from it, and use it for exploring the unseen world underwater.

Dissemination Plan

To share and grow the project, I plan to:

  • Make simple videos showing how to build and use it.

  • Organize local workshops in Fab Labs and schools.

  • Reach educators, students, and makers interested in DIY underwater robotics.

  • In the future, I may develop a kit version for use in environmental monitoring or education.

  • Launch a Kickstarter to support the development of submarines for many different needs.

Potential Applications

  • Underwater Infrastructure Inspection (Oil platforms, bridges, ships, cables)
β†’ Needs: Waterproof camera, strong lights, high-pressure body, long cable or wireless module

  • Autonomous Mapping (Lakebeds, shallow oceans)
β†’ Needs: GPS (for surface), IMU, sonar, data logger, path planning software

  • Environmental Monitoring (Water quality, aquatic life)
β†’ Needs: pH sensor, temperature sensor, turbidity sensor, SD card, real-time clock

  • Aquaculture (Fish farms, net checks)
β†’ Needs: Waterproof camera, lights, small motors, remote control system

  • Maker & DIY Communities (Custom builds, experiments)
β†’ Needs: Modular design, open-source code, 3D-printable parts, simple motor drivers
