Design and Fabrication

In this page, I will take you through my process of designing and fabricating the enclosure, slots for the electronics, and some other requirements for my final project.

Enclosure

For the enclosure of my project, I plan on using the 4mm plywood in my lab with the help of a laser cutter.

Here is a draft of my 1st proper parametric design enclosure.

Here is a VERY rough sketch of the basic concept idea of my enclosure that I had in mind.

Here is video briefly showcasing the design process.

After getting feedback from my instructors, I edited my design a bit and changed it accordingly. I cut out the dividers for the iPads so that they are easily accessible and also added ventilation holes.

Design assembly

Although I am not fully done with my enclosure(I still have to design and print the legs and the top of my box), I assembled the the components I am done with.

Metal plate

Since I will be locking the door using metal sheets and electromagnets, by allowing them to stick together, I had to design the way the metal piece was to be cut as well.

Here is how it turned out. It was cut using a waterjet in another lab since it is not present in ours.

Electromagnet cover and legs

This is the design I made for the electromagnet slots.

This is the design I made for the legs

I 3D printed them. I used PLA. Here are the results which turned out pretty well.

This is how the legs stay:

Acrylic door and painting

To make my final project enclosure look more beautiful and pleasing to the eyes, I decided to print the door and the top acrylic.

Since I decided to ditch the idea of doing the BMO design in my enclosure, I decided to make it similar to a Creeper which is a monster in Minecraft. Therefore, with the help of my painting teacher at our school, Lopen Thukten, I painted the 2 sides of the enclosure. I made sure to incorporate simple bhutanese designs in it as well so that I would be able to capture an essence of our bhutanese culture and tradition in it as well.

Thank you so much la Lopen Thuken! Here is a close-up on how it turned out in the end.

After printing the green acrylic door, I cut out a sticker of a creeper face using the Vinyl Cutter. This is the image I used for reference for my sticker.

Here is how it turned out!

Thank you!
