FDM printing
This week was dedicated to 3D Printing and scanning, you can access the group work here, the main tests done was to track the quality difference with the different filament and the print with and without support
and the other prints were to test the difference in quality between two different printers
you can find the link to the group work here
A 3d model I wanted to do was a little makeup shelf which is downloadable here

The shelf was made using simple lines and extrusions

the cornice details was picked out from a

This is a 3D print of my model done in sketchup

I wanted to design something more fantasy and somewhat miniature, there are alot of obvious points where the design would faile, like the 90 degree angle connections in this key

SLA printing and Finishing
I wanted to print the fantasy key on the res printer as well, very naturally it broke while removing the supports, due to the details being too thin.

The same problem came up before when we used a ready made model, however the thin peice only broke in one model.

In our fablab we have a collaboration with a bespoke watch maker, who creates one of one watches using sla prints and handpainting.
Some modest peices include

3D Scanning
The first 3D scan done was using an xbox webcam, it would remain stationary as the person would rotate a full turn on a chair.
The second scan was attempted on the phone, which was way harder due to restrictions, either from the software itself, being behind a paywall or the scan taking almost a day to complete. and it being hard to flm around the object or keep it stationary and rotate it.
you can download the file of my head scan here
I ended up borrowing an iphone from someone else to do a scan, However it was stll not good enough, bacause the background was not solid and there wasnt a way to keep the phone stationary while the object was moving or being rotated.
