Back from Fab25 Czechia, it’s time to thank the whole structure and organization of the Fab Academy. These intense months have made me rethink the strengths and opportunities of an incredible program, supported by a local instructor like Luis Ángel Díaz-Faes Santiago, who made the understanding of each task much easier, always attentive to any question or need I might have, and by a fantastic global instructor like Yuichi Tamiya, who helped me bring my work to the level of quality expected from a Fab Academy student.
It is a great personal honor that my final project, ¨The Bending Bench,¨ was selected as one of the ten highlights videos of this cycle, for the best use of wood and that its video summary was shown to all attendees at the graduation party held in Brno on July 7.
The chance to learn directly from Neil Gershenfeld in every class and review has been simply wonderful. I also want to acknowledge the support of the Iberian node members: Pablo, Nuria, and Adrián from FabLab León, and Michael from FabLab Cuenca. A million thanks to all of you. Now it’s time to enjoy what I’ve learned, which is only the first step—there’s still a lot ahead.
Finally, I want to thank researcher Pablo Guindos for his generosity and for making my participation in the Fab Academy possible. Without him, it wouldn’t have happened.
It has been a real pleasure to share this experience with all of you.

In January, an exciting journey began, one that now comes to a close after twenty weeks filled with learning, new experiences, and countless hours of work. I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I also had a quiet fear that I might not meet the level required to succeed. What I didn’t know back then was just how thrilling and fun it would turn out to be.
The day I presented my final project was also my birthday. After the nerves of the presentation, I came home to find that my daughter Cris had prepared the greatest gift of all.
Thank you to Cristina, Cris, Román, and the rest of the family for all your support and understanding.
Remembering who I am.

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to join this incredible community of creative and inspiring people. I’ve been waiting to take the Fab Academy course for years, and finally, I’ve made time for it. I can’t wait to dive in and learn all these amazing new skills.
I’m thrilled to finally be taking this leap into the Fab Lab world!
Looking at past students’ work is a bit intimidating, but it’s super inspiring too! I’ve already started tinkering with Git and GitHub and preparing materials with some help from Luis Díaz-Faes at the Fab Academy node Asociación Tecnológica A Industriosa (Vigo, Spain).
Since 2014, we’ve been working with students at OFabdaETSAC, our school’s digital fabrication workshop. But we held off on calling ourselves a Fab Lab because we wanted to go through the Fab Academy training first—and now we’re finally taking that step!
I’m 61 years old, and my life has always revolved around the world of CAD and BIM. Back in architecture school, I earned a living by helping architectural offices make the leap from drawing boards to CAD, always focusing on optimizing workflows and tailoring solutions to each firm’s needs. I took a break from that in 1999, while working on my doctoral thesis, Timber laminated hollow bars in the construction of space frames. Then, in 2004, after earning my PhD in Architecture and landing a position as an associate professor at the University of A Coruña, I got back into it. Since then, I’ve been dedicated to helping students, architectural firms and public agencies adopt the BIM methodology. I’m also part of the Architectural Structures Research Group
I have taught and organized numerous courses in parametric design and digital manufacturing, as well as courses at different levels of training in BIM processes under the Autodesk Revit platform. Support technician certified by Autodesk for the AEC sector from 1995 to 2011 in the AutoCAD platform and from 2009 to 2011 in the BIM Revit platform. I’m an Autodesk Certified Professional for the BIM Revit Architecture 2015 platform. On this page, you can check out my academic and research background.
Right now, I’m in charge of the first-year architecture course where we introduce students to the basics of structural design in architecture like vector mechanics, statics, centers of gravity, and moments of inertia. I’m also responsible for a fifth-year elective called Singular Structures. In this course, we get hands-on with Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper,… and every student has to build scale models using the digital fabrication tools we have in the ETSAC fab.
A little about me: I am living in Sada, a town located in the northwest corner of Spain in the province of La Coruña. I love family and travelling! In the photo, it’s the four of us—Cristina, Cris, and Román—visiting, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed, Kaufmann House in Pennsylvania a few years back. I’m all about staying active, and since the pandemic, mountain biking has become my new obsession. Every year, I make it a point to sneak away for a solo biking adventure.
My other big passion is sailing. Back in the ’80s, I got hooked on windsurfing Sailing regatta Villa de Mera, 1988. Youtube and kept at it until a knee injury made me hang up the board. In the other photo, I’m with my best friends since I was 15—Íñaki, Jose, and Alberto. Oh, and holding the camera on the other side is Luis, the unsung hero behind the shot!!
