Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar, a rural Fab Lab equipped with cutting edge digital fabrication equipment, and a founding partner of 12 other Fab Labs around Iceland. Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar offers guidance and consultation to all local entities interested in founding a makerspace or a Fab Lab and hosts meetings and workshops for Fab Lab managers under the umbrella Fab Lab Iceland.
Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar Iceland offers various extracurricular programs for students in Fab Lab Technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. Through these programs, teachers also get the opportunity to develop skills to bring to the classroom. Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar is an active partner in the Icelandic and the Nordic Fab Lab Network where in addition to Fab Lab Foundation recommended equipment, facilities and materials are available.
Amongst that are e.g. Laser, Epilog laser Mini 24-40W, 3 D printers, Ultimaker 2, Extended, Prusa, Bamboo lab 3d Scanner, Vinyl cutter, Roland GX-24 and Roland BN-20, Fine milling machine, Roland Modela MDX-20 Big milling machine, Shopbot PRS-alpha CNC, Electronics workshop, Fab Lab, digital fabrication workshop.
Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar Iceland offers a vast support network through various programs to support innovation and entrepreneurship from the idea phase all through the startup phase. Scientific research is within diverse fields in research and project management. Projects include applied research and testing, basic research in key areas, consultation and technology transfer.
The Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar has been a part of Distributed Design project funded by Creative Europe. In that project we have implemented Distributed Design methodology to Iceland, digital textile and also Make.Works a collaboration platform for local industrial companies and designers. The Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar is also a project leader for the Coastal Community project which connects scientists, creatives, the fishing industry and the public in an awareness program around the ocean and the blue economy. The Knowledge Center of Vestmannaeyjar Iceland runs Fab Lab Vestmannaeyjar, a digital workshop open to students, artists ,researchers, companies, SME and the general public.
The Fab Lab is an important part of the Knowledge Center of Vestmannaeyjar Iceland which is a science cluster in a community which offers diverse opportunities for study and scientific work on land and sea. The cluster collaborates with business life, tourism, culture and education both internally and externally on a variety of activities. It regularly hosts lectures on a variety of topics.
