Weekly Reflection

I found this week to be one of the most intimidating week at first purely because of the fact that I was still trying to get better at Fusion Parametric Design and the CNC Machine itself always scares me. Back in my uni days, I have never touched the CNC machine at all. As I revisited this week again after completing my other pending assignments and despite the trials and tribulation I went through to get this week’s assignment done - I found this week to be one of the most rewarding because:

  • I really get to learn the mechanism of the CNC Machine. Our hobbyist CNC machine was having alot of trouble setting up. From motors not syncing to wrong collet sizes to router catching smoke… you get to understand the limitation of the machine and what should be done in order to prolong the tool’s life.
  • We ended up going to a custom CNC shop that allowed us to get our work done. Learning how a commerical CNC machine functions with optimised setting really gives me a better picture of the mechanism of our hobbyist CNC machine. I get to understand the difference between a conservative setting and an aggressive one and what it means for the longevity of the tool.
  • Since this was the week that I completed last.... it felt really rewarding how I got so much quicker and impoved my workflow with parametric design. Designing joineries was always what I wanted to do and when I was attempting to make the design at Week 7 - I was struggling and completed the design in three days… Jump to Week 20+ and I managed to rework my design in mere hours.
