licenses
Licenses come in various forms and serve different purposes depending on the context. Here are some of the types of licenses that are towards what i did as a project.
- Proprietary Licenses: Users are given permission to use the software under certain conditions, but the software remains the property of the licensor (e.g., Microsoft Windows).
- Open Source Licenses: Open source licenses are legal agreements that allow software to be freely used, modified, and shared. These licenses promote collaboration and transparency, enabling developers to build on existing software without having to start from scratch. There are several types of open source licenses, each with different requirements and permissions. Here are some of the most common open source licenses:
- GNU General Public License (GPL): The GNU General Public License is a free, copyleft license for software and other kinds of works. The licenses for most software and other practical works are designed to take away your freedom to share and change the works. By contrast, the GNU General Public License is intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change all versions of a program--to make sure it remains free software for all its users. We, the Free Software Foundation, use the GNU General Public License for most of our software; it applies also to any other work released this way by its authors. You can apply it to your programs, too.
- MIT License:The Open Source Initiative (OSI) is a California public benefit corporation, with 501(c)3 tax-exempt status, founded in 1998. We are also actively involved in Open Source community-building, education, and public advocacy to promote awareness and the importance of non-proprietary software. OSI participates in Open Source conferences and events, to meet with open source developers and users, and to discuss with executives from the public and private sectors about how Open Source technologies, licenses, and models of development can provide economic and strategic advantages.
- Apache License: Allows for modification and distribution, with some requirements for attribution and notices.
- Patent Licenses: is a legal agreement in which the owner of a patent (the licensor) grants permission to another party (the licensee) to use, make, sell, or distribute the patented invention. Patent licenses are essential for enabling innovation and commercialization while ensuring that patent holders are compensated for their intellectual property.
- Trademark Licenses: A trademark license is a legal agreement where the owner of a trademark (the licensor) grants permission to another party (the licensee) to use the trademark in connection with specific products or services. This can help businesses expand their brand presence without losing control over the quality and reputation associated with their trademark.
- Copyright Licenses: A trademark license is a legal agreement where the owner of a trademark (the licensor) grants permission to another party (the licensee) to use the trademark in connection with specific products or services. This can help businesses expand their brand presence without losing control over the quality and reputation associated with their trademark (e.g., books, music, software).
I decided to use Creative commons because it's a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping build and sustain a thriving commons of shared knowledge and culture. Also as part of their work, they help overcome legal obstacles to the sharing of knowledge and creativity; they Provide also CC licenses and public domain tools that give every person and organization in the world a free, simple, and standardized way to grant copyright permissions for creative and academic works; ensure proper attribution; and enable others to copy, distribute, and make use of those works
So i went to the website clicked on LICENSES and TOOLS then scroll down to choose a license then next go to get started with the chooser this is what guided me to choose my license which can be different to everyone according to what the settings they set are then after that on the right part of the screen you see that it has created the license under recommended license then below mark your work you can copy the license to put it in the file you made
