Introduction to the 3D printers
LeapFrog Creatr HS

FDM prinsible printer with heated bed. The price range is about 1,800€. It is one of the oldest machines we have in the Fablab. It is Leapfrog but only by name because we replaced the brain of the printer with completely different things. However, it has really nice frame. We use a raspberry pi connnected to arduino mega. The arduino mega trigers the boards. The raspberry pi has clipper installed which is a 3D printing software that can run on a small computer like raspberry pi.

Test 1

Angle and overhang:
LeapFrog Creatr HS: flawless overhang until 40 degrees after that quality starts declining
Raise 3D pro2: flawless overhang until 60 degrees after that quality starts declining
Formlabs Form3: best result, no drooping.
Bridging:
LeapFrog Creatr HS: 15 mm has macaroni droop
Raise 3D pro2: Fine even with 25 mm length
Formlabs Form2: Bad “melted” uneven bridges, and a split on 25 mm bridge
Hole:
LeapFrog Creatr HS: 0,1 mm smaller
Raise 3D pro2: Almost exact
Formlabs Form3: 0,1 mm smaller
Scale:

Wall Thickness:
LeapFrog Creatr HS: all walls were made. All holes were made except for .1 and .2.

Overhang:
The test pieces were printed with support.
LeapFrog Creatr HS: With supports overhang printed just fine.
Raise 3D pro2: the piece was broken while erasing the support.
Formlabs Form3: With supports overhang printed just fine.
Clearance:
The test pieces were printed with support.
LeapFrog Creatr HS: 0.1 and 0.2 clearance between parts was too small; the pieces are not moving. Other c.
Raise 3D pro2: Printing was failed and the result is unclear.
Formlabs Form3: Only parts with 0.4, 0.3, 0.2 and 0.1 clearance are not moving, others are moving freely.
