Computer Aided Design(CAD)
This week’s assignments are:
- To learn more about Computer-Aided Designing(Raster, Vector, 2D, 3D, Render, Animate, Simulate, …)
- To model a possible final project
- To learn to Compress Images and Videos
- Post a description with your design files on your class page
Vector Vs Rastor
Vector and raster images are two primary types of digital graphics used in computer graphics, design, and various digital media. Each has its own set of characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages. Here's a comparison between vector and raster images:
1. Definition:
Vector Images: Vector graphics are composed of mathematical equations defining shapes, lines, and curves. They are resolution-independent, meaning they can be scaled to any size without losing quality.
Raster Images: Raster graphics, also known as bitmap images, are composed of a grid of pixels, each assigned a specific color value. They have a fixed resolution and can lose quality when scaled up.
2. Scalability:
Vector Images: Vector graphics are infinitely scalable without losing quality. This makes them ideal for designs that need to be resized frequently, such as logos or illustrations.
Raster Images: Raster graphics have a fixed resolution, so resizing them can lead to loss of quality, resulting in pixelation or blurriness.
3. File Size:
Vector Images: Vector files are generally smaller in size compared to raster files because they only store mathematical equations defining the shapes.
Raster Images: Raster files can be larger in size because they store color information for each pixel in the image.
4. Editing:
Vector Images: Vector graphics are easily editable since they consist of individual objects and paths. You can modify shapes, colors, and other attributes without loss of quality.
Raster Images: Editing raster graphics can be more challenging, especially for complex edits like resizing or changing specific elements, as it may lead to loss of quality.
5. Complexity:
Vector Images: Vector graphics are well-suited for simple to moderately complex designs, such as logos, icons, and illustrations with clean lines and shapes.
Raster Images: Raster graphics are better for complex images with detailed textures and shading, such as photographs or digital paintings.
6. Usage:
Vector Images: Vector graphics are commonly used in industries like graphic design, branding, illustration, and printing, where scalability and flexibility are essential.
Raster Images: Raster graphics find applications in photography, digital art, web design, and multimedia, where detailed images with realistic textures are required.
7. Compatibility:
Vector Images: Vector formats like SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) are widely supported across different platforms and software applications.
Raster Images: Raster formats like JPEG, PNG, and TIFF are also widely supported, but compatibility issues may arise when scaling or using different software applications.
Vector graphics excel in scalability and flexibility, making them ideal for designs that need to be resized or edited frequently. On the other hand, raster graphics are better suited for complex images with detailed textures and shading, where scalability is not a primary concern.
2D Design
Photopea
Photopea, an internet-based image editing tool, offers a user-friendly and flexible platform for photo editing and graphic design. With an interface and functionality reminiscent of Adobe Photoshop, it serves as a compelling alternative for those seeking a web-based editing solution. Its familiarity with Photoshop meant I could navigate it effortlessly without the need for tutorials. Recently, I utilized Photopea to change the background for my previous project.
After removing their backgrounds, I acquired an ocean image from Google to serve as the backdrop for floating the boat. Here's how the final result looked.
Inkscape
Inkscape is a powerful open-source vector graphics editor suitable for creating a wide range of graphic designs, illustrations, and artworks. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for drawing, manipulating shapes, text, and objects, enabling users to create intricate and professional-quality graphics. Inkscape supports various file formats, including SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), making it compatible with other vector-based software. With its user-friendly interface and extensive features, Inkscape is a popular choice for artists, designers, and hobbyists alike. Additionally, being open-source software, it is freely available for download, allowing users to access its full capabilities without any cost. Whether you're creating logos, icons, posters, or complex illustrations, Inkscape provides the tools and flexibility to bring your ideas to life.
I am already familiar with Inkscape from using it for my professional tasks
Using Bing AI, an AI-powered image generation tool, I created a logo for my final project.
I opened the image in Inkscape.
From the top menu bar select —> “Path” —> “Trace bitmap” —> “Apply”
Finally, I got My logo
3D Design
FUSION 360
Fusion 360 is a comprehensive cloud-based CAD/CAM software developed by Autodesk. It offers a range of tools for 3D modeling, simulation, rendering, and collaboration, making it suitable for product design, engineering, and manufacturing. Fusion 360's integrated platform allows users to seamlessly transition between design, engineering, and fabrication workflows, streamlining the product development process. Its parametric modeling capabilities enable users to create and modify designs with precision and flexibility. Additionally, Fusion 360's simulation and analysis features allow users to test their designs for functionality, performance, and manufacturability. With its cloud-based architecture, Fusion 360 facilitates real-time collaboration and version control, enabling teams to work together efficiently on projects from anywhere in the world.
I have downloaded Fusion 360 from Website
I have received the Education Licence from FAB Foundation
Intially, We have designed a bulb to understand the tools
Create Sketch is the first option to explore my Fusion 360 Journey
I have gone through various tools in Fusion Like Exturude, Mirror, Sweep and also understood the rendering of a design.
Designing the final project
In Fusion 360, I attempted to design, render, and animate my final project idea.
This is the landing page of Fusion 360. Initially, I began by sketching the design and then proceeded to extrude it.
Then i have imported the standard components, like DC Motor and OMni wheels, from GRABCAD
I Have used “ joint “function to join the wheels with motor
it gives proper assembly for the all components
To enhance the visual appearance, I applied specific materials from the Appearance menu. Opening the Appearance menu is as simple as clicking the "A button.”
I have given appropriate material based appearance for my design using the feature
I Have imported the logo which i have designed in the Inkscape using Insert—>Insert SVG
This is my concept for the final project
Rendering
Next, I switched to rendering mode from the design view and, after rendering the image, saved it by clicking the capture image icon.
In Render option, Go to Setup —> Scene Settings
In that there are various environment , I have tried different environment for my design .
Finally, I have chosen the below rendering
Animation
Transitioning to animating the design, I switched to animation mode. I set the time instances on the timeline and used the transform component tool to adjust the design's position according to the timeline.
The final animated video is here
