19. Invention, intellectual property and income¶
Individual Assignment¶
- Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
- Prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your website’s root directory
Dissemination Plan¶
Since I want others to be able to build on and improve my project, I want to license it under a Creative Commons BY-SA license. This license allows others to “distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator”, according to the Creative Commons organization. I considered only allowing others to redistribute the project for noncommercial uses, but I decided that I would be ok with commercial distribution as well. I created my project mostly as a passion/hobby project, so I have no plans at the moment to continue onto commercial distribution.
Although my project is for personal use and I am not interested in commercially distributing it, I still have a few ideas as to how to raise awareness for it, with the first one being creating social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and posting about it. If I did eventually decide to commercially market the product, I would probably start a Kickstarter or GoFundMe campaign as well to get the project out there and gain more funding for improvements to the product.
Possible Improvements¶
There are two main things that I think I could add to my project to make it better. First, I think having neopixel strips below the turntable to illuminate it while spinning could make the project much more appealing, especially if the colors of the neopixels corresponded to the speed that it was spinning at. Secondly, another improvement would be to add removable acrylic panels either on the turntable or attached to its base. However, these panels might make the turntable more clunky to move around.
