19. Invention, Intellectual Property and Income

This week I chose a license for my final project and developed an dissemination plan.

Assignment

individual assignment:

  • develop a plan for dissemination of your final project

  • prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory

Dissemination

The pomo-desk was created so that students, like me, could have an interactive way to study that minimizes distractions and maximizes productivity. Though it could be an interesting product on the market, I believe that it would best benefit others under a Creative Commons License. Thus, I would publish project with a Creative Commons License-NonCommercial-ShareAlike, which “enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator.”

Future Improvements

In the future, I’d like to enhance the features of the TFT LCD to go beyond displaying a fixed amount of time to study (as of now, it only follows the 25/5 sturcture of pomodoro). I would likely do this by adding more buttons underneath the timer, each outlining a different study structure. Additionally, to make the project as interactive as possible, I would consider using a networking protocol, such as UART, to have the neopixels change based on the timer. For example, the neopixels could flash a certain color when the timer finishes!

Presentation Drafts

Here is the draft for my presentation slide:

Between now and the presentation day, I plan on adding more content regarding the individual processes (i.e. specific MCUs used), and a broader description of the project (what the project does, its features).

Here is the draft for my presentation video:

There’s still around 10 seconds left of content I could film in this video, so I was considering doing a funny skit about the application of the pomo-desk!

To compress this video, I used FreeConvert, and I ensured the output was .MP4. Then, under the advanced options, I selected H264 as the video codec, chose target video quality under compression method, and picked very slow under compression speed (ensures better compression and/or quality). Afterwards, the video was compressed to ~8 MB.
