2. Project Management¶
This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.
On this website you will be able to follow my FabAcademy Journey, here I will attempt to design and create a demonstration package of tools to engage with local communites of the Mekong Delta, The idea is to develop a package of wireless ‘Things’ :
My final project will involve working with collaborators in Vietnam studying saline instrusion in the Mekong Delta. The aim is to develop a demonstrator package of LoRaWAN/Nb-IoT sensor nodes which can measure and and transmit salinity and water levels in realtime. Upon a decision being made withg information, ‘listening’ sensor nodes situated at sluice gates may then act to control the flow of water and irrigation.
The Mekong Delta¶
The Mekong Delta is one of the largest river deltas in the world, it is home to over 17 million people and is the economic powerhouse of Vietnam. Without a well constructed and executed management strategy it slip below sea level by 2100.
The problem in a nutshell¶
Deltas exist and grow only when their is a surplas of sediment supplied from the upstream river basin constructing land at the same or greater extents than the land is submerged by relative sea level rise an erosion. Many shemes thus far target local adaptation in order to mitigate against the symtoms associated wihth asinking delta, but do not adress the undlerying anthorpongenic drivers of subsitensce

My Project¶
My project will Involve making a demonstrator type system which will attmept to map the real system . i.e the Mekong Delta to a simulated system compirsed of tanks, to represent delta basin, sensors and actuators to measure, regulate and control the flow of water in the system to minitgate against salt instrustion to the paddys. Despite the communucating parts being in close proximty to one and other for the purpose of mapping a real system each sensor and actuator will be communicating wirlessly with either LoRaWAN or nb-Iot or similar.
