Individual assignment:
-
Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered.
Your project should incorporate:
- 2D and 3D design
- Additive and subtractive fabrication processes
- Electronics design and production
- Embedded microcontroller interfacing and programming
- System integration and packaging.
-
Great lecture this week as we got the chance to see some previous project well built and on how to manage and develop projects
Now I will talk about my final project
What will it Do?
I will develop a device capable of measuring CO2 Levels of the surrounding in addition to (Temperature, Humidity, TVOC, and Particulate Matter) then the device will push these Information to an online platform for monitoring.
Who has done what beforehand?
As per my research there are many companies in the field and there device is called {Indoor Air Quality Monitor} Such As:
-
Who Inspired me to do the project DIY
-
Some previous projects in fab academy:
-
PM2.5/PM10 Air Quality Sensor Great project demonstrating the levels of Particulate Matter in the surrounding using LCD to monitor.
-
PM2.5 Sensor He built a Particulate Matter Sensor
-
Print Filter Focus on cleaning the air out of a 3D printer
-
Air Quality Controlled window opener Simple lovely project focuses on opening the window when the temperature exceeds certain level.
-
What will you design?
I will design Everything in this project.
-
I will start by designing the PCB and then fabricating it going to soldering at the end, Then I will program it.
-
Secondly I will design the housing of my PCB and then the final shape of the device.
-
Finally I will design a stand to accommodate the device.
What materials and components will be used, From Where, and Cost?
Material:
- Plywood : For the housing –> (Available in the LAB) (2240 X 1220 mm) LINK –> Cost (36.25$ USD)
- PLA : For the PCB enclosure and for the device Stand. –> (Available in the LAB)LINK –> Cost (34.33$ USD)
- Acrylic : Might be used to defuse the light. –> (Available in the LAB) (810mm X 610mm X 2.85mm) LINK –> Cost (8.24$ USD)
Component:
- XIAO ESP32c3 –> LINK –> Cost (4.99$ USD)
- SCD30 –> LINK –> Cost (51.4$ USD)
- PMS5003 –> LINK –> Cost (39.95$ USD)
- AGS02MA –> LINK –> Cost (4.95$ USD)
What parts and systems will be made?
The entire system is to collect the data from the surrounding through the sensor and then push them to Arduino Platform to be monitored.
- This is what it meant to be for the project but we have the other part which is the housing for this system which is gonna be made out of wood and placed on PLA stand.
What processes will be used?
- I will use the following :
- PCB Design and fabrication.
- Soldering the PCB and Programing.
- CAD design and milling fabrication using the MONOfab.
- CAD design and 3D printing
- I might use Laser to cut the acrylic.
What questions need to be answered?
I always love to design things but usually it ends there, a CAD design I can go back to when needed, But this time I would like to have this design alive and fabricate it using wood.
One of the struggle is the RGB I want to have it working – > THis RGB ring contains 16 addressable RGB which a bit means a good amount of current almost (20mA\RGB –> 16X20=320mA ) which indicate raising temperature inside the housing and this may lead to miss-readings in the TEMPERATURE and humidity –> For me this won’t affect the overall working principle but this would indicate wrong temp and humidity data which is not a big deal in my case –> But for later one the design has to be enhanced to read more accurate data.
How to maintain a stable airflow inside the housing–> This can be achieved by having large holes in the back of the housing and a good hole distribution.
How the coat of the housing would directly affect the reading of the sensors –> when I was doing the research I read about the TVOC a lot as its organic compounds and they where saying its every where , all around (in furniture, carpets, and disinfectants)–> So this chemical I’m going to put on the Wood is going to effect it hardly –> to avoid it I have to put the piece in open air for almost 3 days but mostly it needs more time until these compounds flays away.
How will it be evaluated?
It works and there is online data being monitored.
How do you see yourself?
Alhamdollelah, I see myself as someone deeply committed to continuous learning and growth, through the years I have built a strong foundation in Electronics design aligned with my education career path. Meanwhile, I’m eager to develop my skills in Management and continue my learning and growth in Electronics and design. This combined will help me in my next challenge as a trainer for the next cycle of FAB-Academy.
Nevertheless, my last 6 months as a student in this year’s FAB-Academy cycle have been a transformative learning journey filled with valuable insights and significant challenges to tackle and resolve. I have savored every moment dedicated to achieving my goal of completing it with excellence.
