Computer-Aided Design¶
Welcome to Week 2 Assignment¶
Key Learnings For this week I downloaded Fusion360 education license, I truly enjoyed it! it is fun to use and very straight forward, I watched many tutorials on youtube and created my first 3D drawing, I also have been wanting to learn procreate for so long now so I drew a logo using the program
2D design¶
Rastor vs Vector¶
- Raster files are images built from pixels. used for digital photographs
- Vector files use mathematical equations, lines, and curves with fixed points on a grid to produce an image. used for logos and complex graphics
Resolution
One of the main differences between raster and vector files is their resolution. The resolution of a raster file is referred to in DPI (dots per inch) or PPI (pixels per inch). If you zoom in or expand the size of a raster image, you start to see the individual pixels.
Raster files display a wider array of colors, permit greater color editing, and show finer light and shading than vectors — but they lose image quality when resized. An easy way to tell if an image is raster or vector is to increase its size. If the image becomes blurred or pixelated, it’s most likely a raster file.
With vector image files, resolution is not an issue. You can resize, rescale, and reshape vectors infinitely without losing any image quality. Vector files are popular for images that need to appear in a wide variety of sizes, like a logo that needs to fit on both a business card and a billboard.
procreate (Rastor)¶
I used procreate (a rastor based-app) to make this simple logo of my name in both english and arabic, I will use it for my Home page too.
This software is very simple, it is powerful because it allows you to illustrate with a pen on the screen. in this logo i didn’t draw I only used english and arabic text.
Inkscape (Vector)¶
I also tried to create a vector logo using Inkscape. it’s free and user-friendly, and you can easily find tutorials on youtube. the interface of this program is attached below:
you can draw shapes from the left column. I drew a rectangle, i changed the fill and the stroke from the bar on the right side.
I added a text with my name, i changed the thickness of the stroke so that the logo would actually look like one!
I resized the white frame around the logo through selecting everything then pressing Ctrl + Alt + R
3D design¶
Fusion360
I downloaded the fusion360 from this link, I designed a furniture piece for the doll house I want to create. the sunbed can be 3D Printed and assembled easily together, it contains 4 pieces.
The skeleton
I drew a sketch of the chair structure.
I clicked on “finish the sketch” and extruded the sketch.
The seats : since the skeleton back is on 45 degrees angle I had to change the plane I am working on through starting a new sketch and choosing the inclined element in the skeleton. I changed the plane again and started another new sketch to draw the other seat where doll will be sitting.
Rotation I got very confused at this stage because I kept trying to copy and rotate the skeleton until I watched a tutorial and figured out I can use the arrow to rotate and use copy from the bar not from the right click.
The openings on the seat were created through pattern command, you can always type S so the search window will appear, type in the command you are looking for (here I typed pattern and I chose the option Pattern on path)
I have 4 different items that can be 3D printed and assembled to become this doll size sunbed chair!
Rendering¶
I used all default setting to render my chair, i added a plane underneath to have the shade and shadow effect and give it a realistic touch.
Navigate on Design > select Render
Navigate on setup > Physical Material > choose your material by dragging it onto the object you wish to add this material to.
Press on in-canvas render it will automatically start rendering.
