Week 17: Invention, Intellectual Property and Business Models
Tasks for this Week
- Created a dissemination plan for your final project
- Outlined future possibilities and described how to make them probabilities
- Uploaded a draft summary slide and video
Dissemination Plan
My focus for Kokoro Friend is for people to build their own. I plan to turn my documentation into a guide book that can then be used by people to make their own. Kokoro is not just for kids, it is for anyone who wants a bit of company and cuteness in their life.
I also plan to use this guide to be able to run workshops at my Fab Lab for people to make their own. I am also considering making a smaller, mini version soft toy with less electronics, that will be easy to make and assemble in a one to two day workshop format.
I also want to setup a Kokoro Friend Instagram so that people have a place to share their own builds.
I also plan to bring Kokoro to the Fab Lab conference in Bhutan, which will hopefullly encourage others to make their own.
License
I decided to go with the Fab licence as I would love for others to build on my project and make their own. I like that this licence is open source, but maintains the need to ongoing aknowledgement.

Future possibilities and how to make them probabilities
I really want to do more work on the remote, in particular work on reducing its size down and adding more functionality.
On the size side of things, I can manage this if I fully incorporate the electronics into the PCB. The PiicoDev designs are open and I can get access to the components from Core Electronics.
For programming I want to explore increased interactivity between the user and the console and the soft toy. More real world testing is needed to use the accelerometer to measure activity.
What will overall find future improvements is to use it in the real world, to have it in the Fab Lab, and gather feedback from a variety of people. With that feedback I would then be able to make further changes that appeal to users.
Upload a draft summary slide and video
A draft slide and video as place holders were uploaded to gitLab and checked that they were in the right location under the docs folder as I am using an mkdocs website.
Placeholders ready to be swapped out for final presentation.
