WEEK 2

This week I worked with raster software, vector software and 3D software. I also made more research for my final project about its structure.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

Assignment

1. 2D design software

raster software

We used Adobe Photoshop1 to design our model. Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. for Windows and macOS. It was originally created in 1987 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, the software has become the most used tool for professional digital art, especially in raster graphics editing. The software’s name is often colloquially used as a verb (e.g. “to photoshop an image”, “photoshopping”, and “photoshop contest”). Although Adobe discourages such use. -Info pages

1. Prepare your photoshop work

step 1 : Open Photoshop

step 2 : Choose a template for your Photoshop model In my case I choose art and illustration template (1080p).

2. Draw your 2D model

Now you can begin your work. I decided to draw a simple logo.

To made it :

Then draw a circle by pressing shift key.

Write text by choosing News701 BT police style and 15 pt for size. change the style and the size with the tools show below at the top of photoshop

Increase the size of brush

and go to your rectangle and slightly erase the rectangle then enlarge it to improve the rendering as you wish. After do that you should obtain it :

And finally draw an ellipse to obtain the final result

vector software

We will use imkscape as vector software and we will vectorize an image to obtain a svg file. note that a svg file can be convert in gcode.

What is Inkscape ? Inkscape is for creating and editing vector graphics, an excellent, free and open source alternative to the likes of Adobe Illustrator.

if you don’t have inkscape this a link to download it. After download it install it by following different steps.

now open inkscape. You should have it

Click save to keep default settings. after click new document. In inkscape open your image : Now we’re going to vectorize the image by click on path > trace Bitmap

click on image then on apply to vectorize the image. this is the result :

2. 3D design software

3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any surface of an object in three dimensions via specialized software.

To introduce the 3D design software I decided to use onshape.

Onshape

For my journey in onshape I try to design a body for my bare usb flash drive 😁

Enter in onshape online with our email. In onshape create new part as shown below:

in onshape we choose a plan where we’ll draw a sketch.

After choosing the plan let’s begin with sketch. We type “r” to choose the rectangle but we can also go to the rectangle tool.

Now we click on the workspace to draw our figure.

use offset by type “o” and return to your sketch. set the offset to 1 mm then use the dimension tool to set the dimensions of the rectangle.

Press “l” to choose line tool and “q” to draw construction line. With strim tool modify your sketch to obtain this :

Info

It’s important to draw the different sketches using a parametric tools to enable easy modification. When your sketch is black that means Parametric tools are used which ares shown by the constraints.

Extrude the sketch to obtain 3D shape

We click on sketch tool again to complete how part. choose the front plane or the opposite side to have a surface to draw on. choose rectangle tool by type “r” then draw your rectangle as shown below

then extruded this sketch to 1 mm thickness you should obtain this :

then according us draw at the left or the right side of the part

extrude now by remove part

Follow the same steps above until obtain this result.

Now we will set our own plane to make a little complex shape

we choose plane point

then we choose right plane and one point to set our plane.

Now draw on the new plane to obtain this result below

I needed “u” command that is convert tool and also “remove extrusion” to obtain the result.

This is one part of the work. i’ll provide all the work available below.

3d files are available here .
