Wildcard Week
Assignments of the Week
Individual assignments:
1.Demonstrate workflows used in the chosen process
2.Select and apply suitable materials and processes to do your assignment.
This week, I attempted 3D printing on fabric.
1.my results
1.1 During wildcard week I tried my hand at 3D printing on fabric. I printed my name on a piece of gray mesh fabric. Here is a photo of the finished product. It may be used in the production of our handkerchiefs in the future.
1.2 I chose PLA and mesh fabric as materials:
a. PLA material was chosen for 3D printing because it has a lower printing temperature and is completely non-toxic and convenient for use in daily life.。
b. Mesh fabric was chosen because it is easier to 3D print.
1.3 I chose PLA and mesh fabric as materials:
1.4 I found that the disadvantage of 3D printing on fabric is that the 3D printed objects have poor adhesion to the fabric and easily fall off.
1.5 I learned a little bit about 3D printing on fabric, and I feel like the final result is pretty good. I will try more materials in the future.
2.Start by applying double-sided tape to the back of the 3D printer's steel plate, then neatly wrap the fabric around the steel plate.
2.1 I glued the fabric as flat as possible to the printer's steel plate so that the 3D printer could press the 3D printer filament directly onto the fabric.
3. I modeled the object I wanted to print in Fusion 360.
3.1 Start by using the TEXT tool to create the text.
3.2 Then use the EXTRUDE tool to create a solid entity.
3.3 Export the completed model.
4. I sliced the model in Bambu Studio and then sent it to my printer for printing.
Error encountered
1. The adhesive on the back of the steel plate is challenging to manage, which may result in an uneven platform when using the 3D printer later on.
2.I found that the disadvantage of 3D printing on fabric is that the 3D printed objects have poor adhesion to the fabric and easily fall off.
problem solving
1. Utilize an alternative adhesive.
2.I will try more materials and methods in the future to see if I can improve the problem of poor adhesion of 3D printed objects on cloth and easy falling off.
