Week Overview¶
This week, we are characterizing the 3D printers and creating 3D prints on our own.
Neil’s lecture Notes¶
- The printhead need to be at the right distance.
- Bridging:
- If the print is anchored at 2 points, then the bridge between the 2 anchors could span quiet a distance.
- Angle:
- 3D printer layers can build on itself to create 20 degree and 30 degree arcs.
- Fumes:
- ABS filament typically produce harmful fumes.
- PLA doesn’t.
- Hangover:
- The more it hangs over, the worse it gets.
- Friction joint:
- Use of abrasives to join joints.
- Nano printing:
- Use of 2 photons to print extremely tiny pieces.
- Extrusions allow a 3D printer to print things larger than the machine itself.
