Reflection

I loved this week in Fab Academy! Creating "something big" was very empowering and assembling the final product was extremely gratifying. I learned so much in terms of parametric design, CNC production, and CAM vs CAD softwares. My skills from this week may not apply to my final project, but I'll definitely be applying my learnings in the future!

Fusion 360

  • Selecting the To Object option on an extrusion is necessary for parametric designs
  • How to create pauses between movements in animations
  • Strategies for adapting material thickness when scaling down a drawing
  • How to use the Manufacture workspace
  • How to install libraries for CNC machining
  • How to export NC/GRBL files from Fusion 360
  • How to operate the Genmitsu 3020-Pro Max
  • How to export DXF files
  • Extruding to a fillet can be problematic

Candle

  • How to use Candle
  • How to run an air cut
  • How to reset the origin position

CNC Design

  • What Dogbones are and when to use them
  • What tabs are and where to use them

Operating The Shopbot

  • How to operate the Shopbot
  • How to replace a bit
  • How to use the nail gun
  • Every pass should be 1/2 the tool's diameter

Aspire

  • How to import DXF files
  • How to fix scaling issues when importing files of different units
  • How to create toolpaths
  • How to export toolpaths
  • The importance of selecting Machine Bed as the z-axis zero point instead of Material Surface
  • How to join seperate vectors from imported DXF files

Sanding

  • Plywood chips easily
