3D Scanning
I downloaded the PolyCAM app on my iPhone and scanned my pencil pouch. I opened the app, left the photo setting on auto, and hit record. I put the pouch on a wooden surface and slowly moved my camera around it. Then I clicked DONE
and clicked UPLOAD & PROCESS
. I didn't press the Use Object Masking
setting but will likely try it when scanning in the future. After loading for a long time, the scan finished and I opened the model. I was very impressed with the detail of the model and the accuracy of the textures and shape. The only pitfalls were the very detailed parts, such as the back end of the zipper and the zipper handles. Although, if I had taken more pictures, I'm confident it would have worked better.
I had subscribed to the premium version of PolyCAM so that I could make many models and download them, but I accidentally made this scan on a diffrent acount! So I deleted this scan and redid it on the other account. I recieved similar results with the only difference being that the back of the zipper was less deformed. Here is a link to a 3D viewer of the model in PolyCAM! I also downloaded an OBJ and put it in this week's ZIP file linked on the reflection page.
In the future I'd love to program a scene in a game engine such as a Unity that has all different objects scanned in the from the real world. I don't have time to explore this idea this week but hope to come back to it in the future. I'd also like to learn how to embed a 3D viewer in my documentation, so I'll come back to this if time allows.
