Week 13 Students B¶
This week’s group assignment was to review the safety data sheets for our molding and casting materials and to compare test casts of each: Dariyah Strachan, Dylan Ferro, Ginny Foster, Stuart Christhilf, and David Tian.
Mixing: Stuart and David¶
We mixed the three material listed below. We mixed the 1:1 ratio of each material into seperate cups and left them to cure for their respective cure times.
What We Learned and Comparison: Ginny and Dariyah¶
Material | Pot Life | Cure Time | Viscosity | Durability (measured in tensile strength) | Mixing Ratio | Material Description | Use For Making A Hard Cast |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
MoldStar (A) with MoldStar 16 fast (B) | 6 minutes | 30 minutes | 12,500 cps, low | 400 psi | 1A:1B | blue, very flexible | Mold making |
TASK-8 | 2.5 minutes | 15 minutes | 100 cps, very low, water-like | 5,840 psi | 1A:1B | off-white, very hard | Casting |
MoldStar 31T | 5 minutes | 23 minutes | 11,000 cps, low | 423 psi, low | 1A:1B | cloudy, flexible | Mold making |
Data Sheets Review¶
MoldStar 31T TASK-8 MoldStar 16 fast - Flush eyes if contact is made with eyes - Wash skin if contact is made with skin, contact a physician to treat any chemical burns from TASK-8 - If ingested do not induce vomiting unless instrusted by a physican, drink water in small amounts if TASK-8 is ingested - Wear rubber or vinyl gloves when using any of the materials - Have good ventilation or wear a respirator - Wear safety glasses
