Story Boarding for the Slide and Video

Mock for the Slide:

Since we need to make a final Slide demonstrating our project to pass, I began creating a template for myself so that I can simply just plug in pictures and information and not have to panic on the last few days. The template I will be using is as seen below:

The Video

Since I learnt that we had to make a video for our final presentation, knew I wanted it to have a feeling of a snippet shot by Wes Anderson. this includes the type of shots and the color palette. Just like in the machine making week video, I enjoy making my videos simple, light hearted yet easy to understand. I think the Wes Anderson style will combine a quirky film aesthetic with unexpected drone project and it will make for easy viewing (not planning on it, but if the drone crashes, I think the clip will be funny especially with Wes’ camera close ups and tracking shots).

The video will consist of all the expected shots of the electronic design and prodcution to the modelling and 3D design, but will also have title cards to tell short stories in between the video clips.

The video will be mainly edited with iMovie and davinci will be used for the color grading as well as the final post processing.

Story board:

I am already collecting clips of the simple things such as the fabrication, production etc, but I am yet to solidify on the final story of the video. I have two Ideas (both will obviously contain The drone flying etc ):

Story 1

Background: I’ve always wanted to be a Pilot. As a matter of fact, I am a mechanical engineer only because of this. My parents did not let me become a pilot with fears of job security so I thought, “hey, if I can’t fly them, I would like to make them”. Ironically, both my parents work in the aviation industry so It was always a big part of my life.

I think as a mechanical engineer, the aerodynamic and physical stuff comes a lot easier than the electronics. However, thats also a big reason why I decided to focus on the electronics and make my own transceiver, to challenge myself, to learn new skills.

Story 2

I think this is the more relevant but also the more difficult of the two. Delivery was the main goal and the problem statement behind the reasoning of choosing this project, so naturally this story makes more sense. But, This is also very difficult because for this, I would have to actually have a drone deliver something far away, and this in my case would be spiral 5 or 6, and as a lone individual working on all the subsystems of the drone, I think it was impossible to do in this 6 months duration, while also working on the assignments. I need to think of another idea adjacent to this.

FINAL

For the final video I stuck with my original storyboard 1. I used davinci resolve to color code the video using Wes Anderson’s themes as explained above, mainly focusing on using the colors from the new upcoming movie, Asteroid City.
