Individual assignment

In the following assignment I must answer the following questions:

What tasks been completed?

To develop my project I need a base for the lamp where the electronic part and the connections will go, and also the different sheets that will be placed on the lamp (lithophane, acrylic engraving, 3D printing) and most importantly the electronic part with FAB card XIAO RP2040, the KY-038 sound sensor and the WS2812B led strip.

Design stage:

Software for 2D and 3D design (GIMP, INKSCAPE, FREECAD, SOLIDWORKS, 3DP ROCKS), software for electronic design and production (EASYEDA, MODSPROJECT), software for Arduino IDE programming were used.

Manufacturing:

  • Lamp base: made of 3mm mdf, laser cutting was used for the shape of the box and the figure to be projected.
  • Lithophane and ornament: made with 3D printing.
  • Engraving and cutting in acrylic: made with a laser cutter.
  • FAB XIAO RP2040 card: made with a mini milling machine, soldering process and functional tests.

The tasks in their entirety were completed.

What tasks remain?

All tasks have been completed.

What has worked? what hasn't?

During the project tests, everything worked as expected with the FAB XIAO RP2040 card, the KY-038 sound sensor and the WS2812B led strip.

What questions need to be resolved?

After finishing a project, new questions always appear. Some of the questions I have asked myself are: What improvements could be made to my project? What other materials could be used for the structure? In order to answer these questions it will be necessary to continue working on my project and why not, make a second version of it.

What will happen when?

The objective of Fab Academy is that at the end of the course we present a final project that covers everything or almost everything learned in each week. The implementation of the project includes from its design, modeling, search for resources to its assembly, programming, tests, process documentation and final presentation.

Based on that, I organized the activities to be carried out as follows:

  • Week 1-3: Search for information, final project idea
  • Week 4-6: Design and modeling of parts
  • Week 7-9: Purchase of electronic devices, design and creation of electronic circuits
  • Week 10-13: Assembly and programming of circuits.
  • Week 14-15: Assembling the structure, functional tests.
  • Week 16 -18: Documentation of the processes carried out. Final presentation of the project.

A detailed waterfall plan is shown in the following figure:

What have you learned?

  • 2D and 3D design with Gimp, Freecad, Solidworks
  • Electronic design with EASYEDA
  • Configure parameters in MODSPROJECT for milling a printed circuit board using the ROLAND SRM-20 mini milling machine
  • 3d print
  • Laser cutting and engraving in different materials such as mdf and acrylic
  • Integrated programming with the XIAO RP2040 board using the Arduino IDE.
  • Connection and operation of input and output devices
  • Creation of molds
  • Assembly, wiring and assembly of circuits
