20. Project Presentations¶
Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered.
Answering:
What does it do?
I will manufacture a prototype of an automatic gel alcohol dispenser. The same one that will work with the detection, through a sensor or infrared, of the approach of the person's hands. The dispenser will immediately eject the gel until you remove them. The instructions will be programs on an electronic card.
Who’s done what beforehand??
We find automatic alcohol or gel soap dispensers for sale in the free market.
This type of homemade dispensers are already used in different countries. However, worked in a digital manufacturing environment, I have not found any precedents.
What is intended in this project is that from the experiences of homemade manufacturing, one is made based on digital manufacturing.
What did you design?
What materials and components were used?
Where did they come from?
Practically all the material is available in our digital manufacturing laboratory, with the exception of alcohol gel, which will have to be purchased in the local market.
How much did they cost?
Description | $ |
---|---|
3D PLA Filament. | 22 |
5.5mm thick acrylic material. | 20 |
Attiny85 microcontroller | 5 |
Servo motors | 20 |
Sensor | 15 |
Jumpers | 3 |
Resistors | 5 |
What parts and systems were made?
What processes were used?
What questions were answered?
What type of servomotor is the most recommended to achieve our purpose?
What components will need to be considered in the manufacture of the electronic card?
What worked? What didn’t?
The detection of the proximity of the hand is detected by the sensor or infrared and immediately the displacement of the servomotor arm is commanded.
What is still pending is testing that the servomotor is strong enough to press the surface of the dispenser to expel the gel alcohol.
How was it evaluated?
The necessary tests will be carried out to verify if the dispenser works; if the sensor detects the proximity of the person's hands and if there is communication between the sensor and the motor for the expulsion of the alcohol gel.
What are the implications?
With the execution of this project I only manage to reaffirm the motto that is handled at the FAB ACADEMY level; "With digital fabrication, almost anything can be fabricated." Everything depends solely on the ability to create solutions that allow solving certain problems.
This is going to be the message that I will convey to my students while imparting knowledge.
