About Me

Introduction

Hi, I'm a passionate educator with a deep love for mathematics, ways of winning(operation research, technopreneurship, automation) and empowering youth. My journey through teaching has led me to explore the intersection of math and digital fabrication, aiming to enrich my students' learning experiences. As of 2024, I am working at Science Centre Singapore Digital Fabrication Spaces. Main Duties involves teacher development, student workshops & curriculum development. Over 2022 and 2023 after learning Fabacademy, I used my free and weekend time to give training to empower gifted kids and go with them to help out the challenged and the communities. Passion for Mathematics and Digital Fabrication

My fascination with mathematics has driven me to delve into digital fabrication. Through the Fab Academy, I've acquired skills that have opened new horizons for teaching and learning, allowing me to better create/appreciate tangible, interactive models that bring mathematical concepts to life.

Family Support

I'm blessed with an understanding wife who has stood by me through late-night lessons at the Fab Academy, and three wonderful children. Our two-year-old twins and four-year-old daughter have been my joy and occasional co-learners during these midnight adventures.

Reflections

During fabacademy
Design: a 1mm error can waste your project away and redo.
Programming: a missing letter is all it takes to crash you.
Electronics: A over current will make your device never work again.
Bill of Materials: A shortage of materials means you redesign.
Git: Lack of control limits your way forward in git.
Wiring: Messy = Failure to upkeep.
Machines: Protect your machine as it prevents you from redoing.

Personal take on Fabacademy, documentation is hard.. Learning Fabacademy skills is at the start hard. But I kinda enjoyed it, as I can now use the parts to help others more...

You make mistake; so that you can help the next generation make more values and less mistakes.

Chatgpt aka AI
Honestly, Chatgpt was very useful as i can work into wee nights asking it things I dont know and i use it as reference to build and troubleshoot.
One wrong code, throw into chatgpt and it identifies your syntax error.
Any typo or wrong information during learning, throw into chatgpt and you get closer to accurate information.
Read a whole book (The datasheet reading assignment) but no expert to explain the book to you, throw into chatgpt and the expert explains and you just need to slowly put into your head.
To me, its irresponsible not to check the doubts with chatgpt and validate it with results. and chatgpt is like the norm like dictionary and calculator now. And you will burn the lecturer down if you ask every since question to satisfy your understanding.
I came to Fabacademy hoping to get study powerpoints or learning books for the digital fabrication, It was nice knowing the software, the machines, the materials, the people, the tricks. Thankful that there is chatgpt, I cant imagine me telling the instructor, I dont understand can you repeat, can you go deeper, can you go slower, can you explain other variations, can you search and tell the lastest trend. To me, Chatgpt is like google search and calculator for the previous generation.

Lecturer Steven and FabAcademy Team
Steven, thanks for giving extra effort to try to make me better in my pursuit of learning fabacademy. Honestly, at first the learning was hard and I dont understand alot. Now hard is norm, I still dont understand alot but I get used to finding question and good to have people to ask and get help.

A quiz who would you like to be in this picture?

I would like to be the rock that keeps the children above me safe from the river while they journey through life learning.
To me, The instructors at Fabacademy are like the Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco. You all are amazing
