My name is Árni Björnsson.
Work and Fab Academy¶
This year I’ll be attending Fab Academy per my contract with my employer, Verkmenntaskólinn á Akureyri (abbr. VMA) or Akureyri Comprehensive College in English.
VMA is a school in Akureyri, northeastern Iceland. It houses the local Fab Lab, Fab Lab Akureyri, where I also work. My work percentage is divided equally between the Fab Lab and providing IT/Tech-support to the school, it’s employees and students. Although I have the hunch the Fab Academy will be shifting the percentages a bit this year.
I’m a qualified auto-mechanic and worked in the industry for just under 10 years.
Last spring I graduated from Reykjavík University with a BSc in Computer Science.
My hope is that my previous qualifications will be of some value during the Academy and once finished, I’ll be quite confident to make (almost) anything within the lab!
Location, location, location¶
As mentioned before, I live in northern Iceland in a town called Akureyri. My family and I moved here for good about two years ago and we are in the process of building a home just outside of the town. Below is view from our location, taken in the end of January by my wife.
My wife and I have two small children, aged approx 3,7 and 0,7 years of age as of this writing, and I hope to incorporate that fact into my final project.
