2d laser design file >
- to fulfill both the 2d design file requirement from CAD week and laser cutting requirement from computer controlled cutting week: -yanked from Dan’s student page
- talked about kerf in design file
- modifying design file to demonstrate knowing how to do things in inkscape
inkscape >
epilog >
- kerf
- https://sendcutsend.com/what-is-kerf-in-laser-cutting/
- the stuff that gets burned away during laser cutting
- apparently the epilog has two separate driving settings: cutting and engraving
- shifting between the two settings is determined by line/artwork thickness, which may explain the resulting kerf of cut pieces
- dan walked me through his svg file exploring the laser kerf. my plan is to modify the file to clarify what he was trying to communicate:
- change from inches to mm
- minimize stroke style width
- change display mode from normal to outline, so I can see super-thin stroke style width
- reassign different sizes of squares
inkscape crashed
while attempting to open the stroke/width settings, I managed to crash inkscape. moving on.
- for my file, I will keep 5 boxes, and they will be deviations of 0.010 mm increments from target of 10mm x 10mm (stroke width being 0.010mm, factored into total dimensions of object)
- 9.980 mm (-0.020 mm)
- 9.990 mm (-0.010 mm)
- 10.000 mm (-0.000 mm)
- 10.010 mm (+0.010 mm)
- 10.020 mm (+0.020 mm)
