Machine design Idea & Tasks Syringe Mechanism Pump Testing Integration

Machine design

Assignment requirements:

Group Assignment
  • design a machine that includes mechanism+actuation+automation+application.
  • build the mechanical parts and operate it manually.
  • actuate and automate your machine
  • document the group project and your individual contribution

In this week we worked as a group to design and operate a machine, First step we wanted to decide what will we do.

Idea & Tasks

  • We have gone through several ideas then we found that Luc Hanneuse & his team worked on a cocktail machine which we liked and wanted to make a similar machine with more features.
  • The machine is a Cocktail mixing machine which we will provide with 3 different liquids, user will choose from an interface the desired cocktail and the machine will produce it.
  • Machine's features:
    1. Choose a drink from the menu.
Actuate mechanism to pour a drink.
  • Then we listed down each machine part and each of us took a specific task, mine is:
  • Pouring Mechanism
      Design
      Fabrication, Assembly
      Programming (Open, Close)
      Calibration and Testing
      Documentation

    Syringe Mechanism

  • I found someone who made an extruding Mechanism using stepper motor and a big syringe, I liked it and tried to make a similar one. Syringe mechanism video.
  • I made the design, downloaded some ready models for stepper motor from grabcad.

  • Sadly, we couldn't find a big syringe to make this mechanism usefull so I switched to pumps
  • Pump

  • I choose a pump and assembled it with a bottle to check the dimensions and determine the fixing orientation.
  • After first test It came out that the pump couldn't suck the water to it's input so I rotated it and the bottle upside down to make the pump always feeded with liquid.

  • Testing

  • I tested pumps first with on/off code through mosfet and tested few orientations to check how should I fix it.

  • Integration

  • Assembled pumps with the body and tested.

  • Final test were everything worked together and doing one operation
