15. Applications and Implications¶
Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered.
Your project should incorporate:
2D and 3D design DONE
Additive and subtractive fabrication processes DONE
Electronics design and production DONE
Microcontroller interfacing and programming DONE
System integration and packaging. DONE
Where possible, you should make rather than buy the parts of your project. Fully Fabable
Projects can be separate or joint, but need to show individual mastery of the skills, and be independently operable. DONE
The answers to the questions below will allow you to create your BOM (Bill Of Materials).
What will it do?¶
The project that I want to build is like a “Theremin”, an instrument that you can play without touching it at all.
Who has done what beforehand?¶
This project can look like these projects:
What will you design?¶
Everything!
From the PCB, to the case, cover and even the program.
What materials and components will be used?¶
I was thinking to use:
Plywood for the case (that is going to be cut with the Shopbot)
Materials for PCB:
- Copper Clad
- Components: 1 capacitor, 1 resistor, 1 ATtiny45, 1 ISP cable (for programming), 1 FTDI cable (for giving power).
- Piezo
- Distance Analog sensor sharp.
Metal for the cover (that is going to cut with the plasma cutter)
Plastic Filaments for the 3D print
Where will they come from?¶
All the materials came from Fab Lab Dilijan, with exception of the metal that came from a factory in another city, because it was cut there with the plasma cutter.
How much will they cost?¶
Aproximatelly 30usd
What parts and systems will be made¶
The parts for the case that is going to be made with plywood, the part of the cover that it is going to be made with metal, the pcb (with all the components), the stand for the guitar which is going to be made with the plastic filaments of the 3d printer.
What processes will be used?¶
Additive: 3D printer
Substractive: Milling (Shopbot and Roland SRM-20) Plasma cutter
I don’t know if to mention the process of programming and electronic design using Kicad, but those ones as well.
What questions needs to be answered?¶
Can I make it on time?
Is it going to be durable with the time?
Can it has improvements?
How it will be evaluated?¶
Babken, my instructor will evaluate step by step until the last part which testing the instrument and its functionalities.
