6. 3D Scanning and printing

Tried to come up with a 3D model that could be printed on a 3D printer, but would be impossible to subtractive milling.

Decided on a cube inside of a hollow sphere. To be able to see it required a small viewing hole. Started with a cube on one corner.

Put it on a pedestal.

Here it is with a hollow Sphere (with a viewing hole).

Put it on a pedistal.

Here is the STL file to print on a 3D printer:

../images/week06/CubeInsideSphere v4.stl

Here is the printing of the Hollow Sphere with a Cube in it:

A second look at the finished sphere with Cube inside

An additonal assignment was the 3D Scanning

A Tripod held the Cell Phone Camera (it is not in the tripod, becaue I am taking the photo) and a Lasy Susan was rotated every 22.5 degrees. I used a “Click Ring” to take a picture every rotation.

I am trying to find software that can take the photos and stich them together into a 3D solid.
