19. Invention, intellectual property and income¶
This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.
Research¶
This below info is just a temporary storage area for some earlier work that does not below on that page as I had thought.
Offered Thoughts¶
Before I can go into the CAD weekly notes I thought I should post some thoughts on where I am with my intentions of my final project. I am discovering its WONDERFUL to have colleagues and students to share my ideas with and they intern impart some of their ideas with me. A draw back though, it does however lead me a stray from my orginial thought process and creates the need to explore options which is time consuming. That being said though, it sounds negative that my thoughts are getting altered and the need (for more time in the day) to explore their suggestions it is quite daunting but very positive. Its the only way this project may progress and succeed is by listening to other peoples brainstorms and exploring those ideas.
1. While the intention is to make this project portable, consider how to make the box housing the circuit board water resisistant / water proof because it will be exposed to the USA southern states humidity and frequent summer time thunderstorms.
- An Acrylic box is fragile and too easy to crack.
- Wooden box with staining a viable option for water resistant.
- A 3D box may not be as weather resistant as desired.
- Consider the molding and casting week where something could be made to create a waterproof housing. Need to research this further as I know NOTHING about what molding and casting is about and what type of material is used.
I’ve Got Questions¶
- In using the pressure sensor - will it be be attached to the whale watch or resting on the ground receiving impact when I side hits the ground?
- Do I need to from scratch, create and build pressure plate / sensor? Or can the final project use an already made pressure sensor??
-
Discovered a “FORCE SENSING RESISTOR,1.5 INCH SQUARE,1oz-22LBS,2 LEADS,0.1 INCH SPACING” on Amazon for Audrino boards. Is it an already built option?
UPDATED INFO Above pressure sensor appears to be too fragile according to questions asked by an interested buyer of some other project and a response from the company. And the concept of it being attached underside of the whale watch and being impacted into the ground leads to the thought that indeed it would be too fragile. (drat!!)
- With the early idea that I may need to use other sensors and wanting to keep this a portable unit, can I fixate the sensor to a store bought clamp to be attached to a Whale Watch?
