19. Invention, intellectual property and income

Research

I began using this webiste to research creative commons licences.

Choosing my license

Before going through this process, I never really thought about my work being used by someone else. I knew about copyrighting and legal courses of that nature, but a worrying about how others would use my Fab project never really dawned on me.

The idea for my project is nothing new. There are many projects out there that use the same sensor, and many other types of wearable technology. I did not find anything that closely resemebles what I did for my project. It was an idea I had, along with my daughter’s input. In my introduction, I discussed how I was making this project to help spark her creative journey with engineering.

I would like do do the same for other young women out there, or anyone, really, who wants to learn this same type of work. Therefore, I am chosing Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). This license allows others to use and expand on the work, for noncommercial use and proper attribution to the creator. If they build upon the work, they must use the same license.
