This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.
Final Project Planning¶
My final project will be a chess board that moves the pieces automatically with an electromagnet underneath with keyboard or button input to select moves. It will also check if the moves are legal and keep track of the positions of the pieces.
Below is a sketch of the top view of the board. The circles are home spaces for the pieces to indicate where to place the pieces to be moved accurately. They also would be places for the pieces to be moved after being taken.
This next sketch shows an idea for the mechanism underneath the top layer of the board. It shows belt mechanisms with platforms that move the platform with an electromagnet around in the x and y axes. The electromagnet would go underneath a piece, which would have some metal piece on the bottom, and turn on and move it to its destination then turn off.

Last is a sketch of piece movement along the line between squares so as to not hit other pieces while avoiding the issue of those pieces blocking the path.
