15. Mechanical design, Machine Design¶
This week we have to make a machine that includes mechanism, actuation, application.
Group Assignment: - Design a machine that includes mechanism+actuation+automation+application - Build the mechanical parts and operate it manually
For the Group Assignment refer this link
Individual Assignment: - Document the group project and your individual contribution.
From the begining of the Fabacademy we were divided into two groups: Group A and Group B.
I am in group B and our group consist of 4 members. 1. Kencho Wangdi -CNR Bio-Fablab Engineer 2. Zina Yoenten - Analyst DHI 3. Sonam Paldon Drji- JWPTI fablab Engineer 4. Anith Ghalley- DGI Fablab Engineer.
The IDEA OF THE MACHINE: Our group decide to make a machine that would recycle PET bottles into a 3D printing filament. Currently BHUTAN has 4 standard labs and a super fablab and it will be a great idea if we could make our own filament for our 3D prnters. At the same time it will help us to recycle pet bottles otherwise it will ultimately go in the land fills.
We named our machine “B positive” since we are group B and most of us were tested positive for covid. We also wanted to encourage other people to focus on our dreams and keep moving despite any situation.
We gathered almost all the machine components from Super Fab Lab.
Components required to make the machine: 1. Nema 17 motor 2. Power supply 3. Filament extruder 4. DC fan 5. LCD screen
Once we gathered all the components, different task were assigned individually.
Following are the different task assigned to each member. 1. Zina Choden Yonten- Team Lead, 3D design Documentation. 2. Sonam Paldon Dorji- Programming, Hall Effect sensor team, Documentation. 3. Anith Ghalley- Hall Effect Sensor team (mechanism), Programming. 4. Kencho Wangdi- Extruder Modification, Assembling the components, wood works and prototyping.
My TASK¶
As mentioned above my task was to make protoype of the machine. Zina and I made the concept model of our machine using card board.
Extruder Modification¶
For extruding the pet bottle we have used a 3D printer Extruder.
To make it as an extruder for our machine, first we have to modify the nozzle of the extruder. The standard 3D printer nozzle diameter is 0.4mm and it’s my responsibility to change the diameter to 1.7mm. To modify the nozzle diameter I have used a drilling machine with bit size 1.7mm.
## RESULT
ASSEMBLY¶
Once all the machine parts were ready, Zina and I assembled all the parts into 18mm cardboard. We wanted to place the controller and power supply at the bottom of the board
and the extruder machine parts on top. To make the connection clean, we drilled holes for every wire connection below each machine part.
