Pairing with Adai on OpenScad
This past monday, we tried to use OpenScad with Adai and we got a humbling lesson.
I will not fall for the drama and the hate you will see online, but I need to talk about this.
I will just say that it took us 1h of our life on earth to put together a simple parametric design that was able to build shapes of different sizes.
Before getting to the lessons learned, I did want to spend a couple of sentences to celebrate this pairing session with Adai.
Adai has been an amazing and patient partner in this tortuous adventure, and I am proud to have shared this experience with them! I like how we approach the problem, how we tried different ways to break it down into smaller chunks, and how, despite frenetic and chaotic freakout moments, our duckduckgo searches were actually really fun. Thanks for your support, mate 😉👍🏻
The lessons:
- Ordered, from ‘least obvious’ to ‘most obvious’ knowledge and life advice:
- Don’t invest in NFTs.
- In terms of meaningful relationships: Don’t invest emotionally on people who don’t invest in you.
- The movie Aliens was an allegory for the Vietnam war
- And, the most obvious of all opinions (and this is the key learning for the week):
- Don’t invest brain power and time in CAD software that lacks basic features: like a line primitive see this reference
- Call it prejudice, call it healthy boundary setting, call it primal wound, the point remains:
- OpenScad, maybe good for a wild night, but don’t invest in it; if your goal is to have a long and healthy relationship, find a better accomplice. We speak different love languages and we’re just going to get hurt.
- Enough said.
Meta: What? we were told that instructors are tired of always reading the same old descriptions and wanted some #drama to spice things up… hope my short but passionate OpenScad affair gives a bit of spark on your day of documentation-reading.
